Dr. Raybon is a vocal teacher, Director of Choirs and Chairman of the Newcomb Department of Music at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is the resident musical director and conductor of the Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre. A native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he earned his bachelor’s degree from William Carey College in music education, his Masters Degree from York University, England, and his doctorate degree from Louisiana State University.
Dr. Raybon most recently featured as a soloist in the Mirigny Opera House’s production of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and his choirs have toured in Rome, Florence and Venice. Dr. Raybon won two Big Easy Awards for his musical direction and production of Pirates of Penzance and Man of La Mancha at Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre. Dr. Raybon’s Reading at MSU’s Seventh Choral Colloquium will focus on the cultivation of young voices and promoting vocal independence within mixed groups. The discussion will feature examples of European masterworks and contemporary American literature.
