2017 Fall Choral Repertoire Selections by Denise Eaton

2017 Fall Choral Repertoire Selections by Denise Eaton

As summer is coming to a close, repertoire selection is topmost in Choir Directors’ minds.  Selection of engaging, challenging and stimulating pieces is one of the most important decisions that Choir Directors make.  As you think about the skills you want your choirs to develop, pick repertoire that excites you so that you are motivated to learn and study it.  Your students will sense your enthusiasm and you will communicate your positive energy to your choir.

Range and vocal development is especially important for Junior High and developing High School choirs.  Adolescent voices change, grow, develop and morph quickly. Repertoire selection needs to take into account these needs.  Finding Ophelia’s Voice by Lynne Gackle is an excellent resource in supporting girls in their development.  Working With Adolescent Voices by John M. Cooksey is helpful in encouraging boys as their voices are changing.  Ryan Guth’s Choir Ninja is an outstanding resource tailored to Choir Director’s needs.  I have recorded several presentations on the site, including an in-depth talk about structuring effective choir rehearsals.

One of BriLee’s key goals is to provide quality repertoire that fits the needs of the developing adolescent voice.  BriLee’s has a long-standing commitment to providing “part dominant” recordings to be used for practice, assessment and sectionals.  Equally important, I focus on publishing pieces whose textual messages engage the imagination and creativity of young adults and their Choir Directors.  Both BriLee and Carl Fischer provide free downloadable accompaniment tracks for all of their music.

I am excited about Carl Fischer and BriLee’s 2017 Fall offerings because they have a fresh, diverse feel and are laden with a variety of wonderful composers!!  Throughout the diversity of repertoire, directors are sure to find pieces that are rhythmically and harmonically challenging, lyric with opportunities for range development, and offer a launchpad for choirs to begin fall rehearsals.  They are available at SheetMusicDeals.com* at 25% off with promo code BriLee17 through September 15th.  Below are some of the season’s most popular selections designed to help Junior High and High School choirs develop in the following areas:

Harmony

Tessitura and Range extension:

Rhythm:

Vocal Independence:

Sight Reading:

Multi-cultural Awareness:

SPIRITUAL & FOLK:

The pieces cultivate the musicianship, skills-sets, sensitivity, tonal center and confidence necessary to demonstrate your choir’s accomplishments over the season.

As you scan the literature, check out the MP3s available on the website so that you can hear BriLee and Carl Fischer pieces in performance.

I welcome your feedback about your experience in using BriLee and Carl Fischer publications and your suggestions for choices in growth areas that would support your choirs’ musicianship and skill development.
