This session, featuring four of the country’s leading string educators and conductors, will focus on practical skills and knowledge for making immediate improvements in your middle and high school string ensembles. The first half of the session will focus on curriculum scope and sequence; shaping the sound of your orchestra; bowing fluency and rhythm; and the final tonal frontier, shifting and vibrato. The second half will focus on practical skills needed by middle and high school teachers; strategies and techniques for making rehearsals more efficient; getting the most out of your musicians; and student motivation. Bring your instrument and your baton, and be prepared for a hands-on day of learning! The educational session will be led by Stephen Benham (Duquesne University), WIlliam LaRue Jones (University of Iowa), Bob Phillips (Alfred Publishing), and Emily Freeman Brown (Bowling Green University).
